Senior Showcase All-Star Practice
OrlandoHoops treated players to special workout sessions during the 14th Annual Senior Showcase All-Star Weekend. Working with these players, we were able to break them into groups, allowing their coaches and ourselves to see what these players really had. Ball handling with Coach Rick included – intense dribbling, using hurdles and cones, using two balls, and showing and explaining new techniques. Rickey proved to these stars that there’s always room for improvement and they showed they wanted it. Coach Nick demonstrated and perfected techniques on attacking the basket – with thorough jab and rip moves to exploding off the dribble, breaking man down with movies such as spin, euro and Texas hop, he had the boys working and they proved they had it in them to learn. Passing, moving with out the ball, catching and shooting, catching and creating, Coach Gerrod had the boys working hard to finish shots: footwork, form and fundamentals movements to pull-ups, step backs, and elaborate alley oops. From post to midrange, Coach Irwin nailed down the moves for the players to really understand why specific movements are useful just as he explained hwy others were wasteful. He worked on ball-fake, step/jab fakes, angles around the basket and motion to use when it makes sense. Most say it is not possible but Irwin has it in him to demonstrate to a “T” of what it takes and it works!

Hoops For H.O.P.E
Hoops For H.O.P.E and OHoops4Life worked together on creating a great opportunity for these talented and acknowledged athletes to be apart of talking (q’s & a’s) and hanging out with a selected group of students at Memorial Middle. Not only did the students get to listen in, and talk to the athletes, but each one got a t-shirt, a ball, an opportunity to get autographs from these future collegiate players and potential professor athletes, and a ticket to have the opportunity to watch these athletes on the court at the FL vs. USA Hardwood Classic at the Amway Center. Heart-warming, inspirational and motivational experiences that people like the senior all-stars, organizations like senior showcase – Hoops For H.O.P.E and OHoops4Life need to continue reaching out and being a part of our youth, as every child matters and every little bit can make that difference.

Seniors @ Dave & Busters/NBA City
After a hardworking practice and trip to Memorial Middle School for Hoops for H.O.P.E, seniors headed to Dave & Busters on I-Drive for some fun time. We spent over an hour doing nothing but playing games and competing against each other in basketball. We then headed to NBA City for the 3-Point Shootout, won by Shawn Smith and were then treated to a buffet style dinner and some free time.

Pi Day @ The Lab 3/14/2012
Pi, is the symbol for the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th. OHoops Central Florida Basketball Training Camp
OHoops hosted the Central Florida Basketball Training Camp at Bishop Moore Catholic School the weekends of 12/11 and 12/18. There were some stand out athletes playing alongside some motivated, passionate players. This event was a major success for all. Players were able to train, meet new competition and learn a few fundamentals of the game. This event gave each player tools to practice, perfect, and utilize in their games. OHoops had a lot of fun working with top 5th grader Collin Brown from Each One Teach One, 8th grade rising star Ben Hayden, 9th grader Christian Clinton and 11th graders Pedro Lalor of Dr. Phillips and Josh Howard from Edgewater. The drills learned in this camp are tools each player can take and utilize through the rest of their playing careers. We are very proud of all the players that attended the camp and look forward to helping them grow and achieve their basketball goals along the way.

OHoops visits Trinity Christian Academy in Deltona
Most schools are already out on break with many players relaxing and taking the long holiday season off from hoops. This was clearly not the case for both the Varsity and Junior Varsity girls of Trinity Christian Academy in Deltona. This past Tuesday during a mid-morning practice the girls came focused and ready to get better. They worked on ball handling, passing, shooting off the move, and cutting drills. It was an all around intense training session. We had a great time meeting new players and showing them fundamentally sound basketball. These ladies listened, learned and will apply their training to their game. OHoops had a blast. Good luck finishing off this season ladies. See you all soon.
